Most of these ranger stations are shown on the official PDF map of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park. For a more detailed map of the area surrounding ranger stations, click the map link in the descriptions below.

Ranger reports are missing for some years and some ranger stations. We speculate that a report may be missing because the Park Service could not find the report, the ranger station was not staffed that season, or we could not locate the report in the large amount of FOIA records that we received from the Park Service.

Ranger reports for the years 1983 to 2003 are in separate PDF files for each year and ranger station. See File naming scheme for 1983 to 2003 ranger reports for more information.

For the years 2004-2015, reports for all ranger stations are combined into one PDF file per year. When you click on a link below for a ranger station in years 2004-2015, this web page attempts to open the PDF to the correct page in the document for the desired ranger station. If the PDF opens to the first page instead of the desired ranger report, find the ranger report in the PDF using the page number indicated on this page. Refer to the continuous page numbers in the PDF and not the page numbers in each ranger report which restart at 1 for every report.

Bearpaw Meadow

Located on the High Sierra Trail in Sequoia National Park and about 13 trail miles east from the Wolverton trailhead in the western Sierra. The commercially-operated Bearpaw High Sierra Camp is adjacent.

Bench Lake

Located at the intersection of the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail and the Taboose Pass Trail. The ranger station is about a mile east of Bench Lake.

Charlotte Lake

Located on the Charlotte Lake spur trail off the the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail. Glen Pass is about 1 linear mile northeast and Kearsarge Pass is about 3 linear miles east.

Crabtree Meadow

Located near where the John Muir Trail departs from the Pacific Crest Trail to head to Mt. Whitney. Mt. Whitney is about three linear miles to the east and Timberline lake is about mile east of the Crabtree Meadow ranger station.

Hockett Meadow

Located southwest of the Mineral King trailhead on Whitman Creek and about 4 linear miles west of Vandever Mountain.

Kern Canyon

Located on the Pacific Crest Trail and Kern River at the southern boundary of the park. On the other side of the park boundary lies the Golden Trout Wilderness.

Le Conte Canyon

Located on the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail at the intersection with the Bishop Pass trail. The station is about 2 linear miles west of Dusy Basin.

Little Five Lakes

Located about 5 linear miles northeast of the Mineral King trailhead at Little Five Lakes on the Black Rock Pass Trail.

Lodgepole Subdistrict

This is not a ranger station but considered a subdistrict of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks. It is a frontcountry area. The High Sierra Hikers Association has received limited ranger reports for this area.

Located in Evolution Valley on the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail about 2 linear miles south of the northern park boundary.

Mineral King

Located on the Mineral King Road about a mile from the eastern end of that road. The High Sierra Hikers Association has received limited ranger reports for this ranger station.

Pear Lake

Located near Pear Lake at the end of the Pear Lake Trail and about 3 linear miles directly east of the Lodgepole Visitor Center on Generals Highway.

Rae Lakes

Located on the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail near one of the Rae Lakes. Glen Pass is about 1 linear mile southwest.

Ranger Lake

This ranger station appears to have been decommisioned in recent years. It is located near Ranger Lake about a mile east of Silliman Pass. The High Sierra Hikers Association has received limited ranger reports for this ranger station.

Roads End Permit Station

Roads End Permit Station is located at the east end of the California State Route 180 (Kings Canyon Scenic Byway). This frontcountry office issues wilderness permits for hikers entering the park through this area. The High Sierra Hikers Association has received limited ranger reports for this area.

Roaring River

Located near Scaffold Meadows and the intersection of the Sugarloaf, Elizabeth Pass, Colby Pass, and Sphynx Creek trails. It is about 6 linear miles south of Roads End in Kings Canyon National Park.

Rock Creek

Located on the Pacific Crest Trail and Rock Creek. It is about 6 linear miles south of Mt. Whitney.

Sierra Crest Subdistrict

This is not a ranger station but considered a subdistrict of Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks that includes the following other ranger stations: Bench Lake, Le Conte Canyon, McClure Meadow, Rae Lakes, and Charlotte Lake. The Tyndall Creek, Crabtree Meadow, and Rock Creek ranger stations were added to this subdistrict in 2013.

Located on Tyndall Creek off the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail near the intersection with the Shepherd Pass Trail. Forester Pass is about 4 linear miles north.
